Boekenhoutskloof Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Stellenbosch, Coastal Region, South AfricaThe 2015 is 86 percent cabernet sauvignon and 14 percent cabernet franc from the slopes of the Helderberg mountain range in Stellenbosch. It shows subdued dusty black fruit on the nose, with tertiary cedar notes that could almost be mistaken for an Haut-Medoc if not for the extra notch of ripeness. Quite linear in texture, the wine has firm, fine-grained tannins that verge on overshadowing the fruit. However, the bright acidity and mineral backbone bring it back into balance. Drinking well now; there isn’t the fruit to allow this to improve considerably with more time in bottle. Pop the cork and debate with your friends whether to classify South African wines as Old World or New World.Tasted: 03 September 2019Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:
