The Velvet Devil Merlot 2016
Columbia Valley, Washington, United StatesRipe, dusky, and plush with eastern Washington sunshine, the 2016 vintage of The Velvet Devil blends 10% cabernet sauvignon and 1% malbec into the merlot, and takes grapes from numerous AVAs. The lot was whole berry fermented with native yeast, and then into French oak for 10 months (30% of which was new). Mocha, blackberry jam, red currant, light florals, and plush plum fill the plump palate, cut with a very tart and sharp acidity, leaving this finishing short and somewhat disjointed.
