Matthiasson Napa Valley Chardonnay 2018

Napa Valley, California, United StatesThe Matthiassons have been leasing Linda Vista Vineyard since 2011, tending the West Oak Knoll vines that were originally planted in 1989 by Beringer. They harvested this in numerous stages, before whole cluster pressing and native fermentation in seasoned French oak, where it remained for aging with no battonage. Two-fifths of the barrels went through MLF. The cooler 2018 year led them to leave the fruit to hang longer into the fall, which you can feel in the cushioned plumpness on the palate. Green apple, light lemon curd, fresh almond is zested with a tight lemon pith and toasty spice. Acidity is lofty, but nonchalant; the whole feel of this wine is relaxed, subtle, and alluringly so. 12.2 degrees = not your typical Cali chard.Tasted: 31 August 2019Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
