Upper Bench Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown Limited Release 2015

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWine geeks rejoice at the easily accessible technical information on the back label: this is a blend of 95 percent cabernet sauvignon and 5 percent merlot (yes, cropped at 2.71 tons per acre) from Upper Bench’s home vineyard. A deep purple colour, this is a full throttle style of cabernet sauvignon from a ripe vintage that shows raisonated fruit and cedary oak, but not much else. Although it’s only 30 percent new oak, the fruit just doesn’t quite hold up to the wood. The tannins are pretty firm, but there’s a pinch of residual sugar (3.9 g/L) to help soften the palate, leading to a hot finish. This should appeal broadly, especially to those that favour a California-style of cabernet. Consider decanting for an hour or two before serving. Only 162 cases produced.Tasted: 21 July 2019Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:
