CedarCreek Platinum Block 5 Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis wine hails from Block 5 at the top of the Home Block Vineyard – the first year it was farmed organically. Winemaker Taylor Whelan reported the first changes saw the grapes developed riper flavours, but fewer sugars, than in previous years and weather-related the were smaller berry size, clusters and yields. The fruit was barrel fermented in puncheons and barriques and went through a full malolactic fermentation before spending ten months in barrel, on full lees, before bottling. 2017 was highly lauded at the National Wine Awards, but it is showing somewhat disjointed at this youthful stage, with the wood, lean fruit, and lees jockeying it out for pole position. Lemon, green pear, green apple, white blossom, vanilla-kissed spices sit atop a bed of earthy lees, finishing with some warming shell spicing. It needs time to resolve its parts into one.Tasted: 07 July 2019Tasted by: Treve Ring & Anthony GismondiPrices:
