Gérard Bertrand Château L'Hospitalet La Clape Grand Vin Blanc 2018

La Clape, Coteaux du Languedoc, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceChâteau l’Hospital sits one hundred metres from the Mediterranean Sea, basking in the semi-arid climate of the AOP La Clape. Long days of sunshine dominate the landscape, heating the limestone soils daily and releasing that warmth throughout the evenings. The site's two soil types provide complexity, with the marl-limestone soils rich in fossils bringing minerality and water, even during the driest days of summer; while the red Mediterranean lands that sit over blue/grey compact chalk help to build richness and concentration. The blanc is an affordable and delicious mix of vermentino, roussanne, viognier and bourboulenc. The nose is a citrus, white fruit affair flecked with quince and savoury dried herbs. The palate is bright yet weighty, with peppery, mineral, honeyed nutty notes. An impressive white wine made for creamy seafood dishes.Tasted: 22 April 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
