Gérard Bertrand Chateau La Sauvageonne Grand Vin Rouge 2016
Terrasses de Larzac, Coteaux du Languedoc, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceLa Sauvageonne is made from individual lots of syrah, grenache, mourvèdre, and carignan growing among the basalt, schist and red soils known as ‘ruffes’ in the acclaimed sub-appellation of Terrasses du Larzac. It opens with a huge floral, toasted oak nose with black pepper, raw meat notes flecked with garrigue, tapenade and black fruits. The attack is youthful, the texture and mouthfeel sophisticated, and the tannins dense but sweet. More intense licorice, orange peel, black plum, black raspberry, meaty flavours persist throughout the long finish. You could drink this now, but I would wait five to seven years to allow this to blossom into a star of the south.
