Black Hills Chardonnay 2017

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 2017 version is not entirely up to 2016. Although the initial fruit component is fresh and lively, it is smothered in a sheen of vanilla that tends to blur the picture. The fruit intensity is big and rich with tropical, pineapple, peach, crème caramel, hazelnuts, butter and oranges. It’s the full meal deal, and it will have its fans, but it is on the edge of being an over-the-top New World Chardonnay. It seems like an easy fix, and I am guessing that the recently arrived winemaker Ross Wise will fine tune all the Black Hils wines and bring them into the modern era. For now, think lobster or butter drenched crab.Tasted: 21 February 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
