Valadorna 2012

Tuscany, ItalyValadorna is made under the eve watchful eye of viticulturist and winemaker Pierre Seillan, who first worked with cabernet franc more than forty years ago on his family’s estate in Armagnac. From there he moved to the Loire, and then Bordeaux for two decades, before arriving in California in 1997. Seillan is big on tradition, allowing him to work seamlessly with his Italian crew at Arcanum. The result is a well-aged merlot dominated blend that takes your breath away. Ripe savoury black cherry, with violets, sweet pipe tobacco and that characteristic Bolgheri resin/ash/dried herb nose that makes this succulent, mineral red a pleasure to drink glass after glass. Decadently juicy and opulent, this is a delicious bottle of wine. The blend is 70/20/10 merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon, aged twelve months in 70 percent new French oak. The fruit is mostly a selection from the Valadorna and Capraia blocks, located on the cooler part of the estate, and which produce the winery's most complex wines.Tasted: 31 January 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
