Zuccardi Fosil Chardonnay 2017
Mendoza, ArgentinaFosil is chardonnay from San Pablo in the Valle de Uco, Mendoza. The grapes are whole cluster pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete vessels. There is no malolactic fermentation and all the ageing is done in concrete vats. This wine is all about texture and minerality. The style is tighter than most other Argentine chardonnays, or most of the New World for that matter. The palate is a citrus affair with bright acidity and creamy lees, making for delicious drinking. Winemaker Sebastien Zuccardi chose the cooler San Pablo Area to plant a massal selection of chardonnay vines plus some clone 548, given its cool location only a couple hundred meters from the Andes Mountains.
