Synchromesh Wines Storm Haven Vineyard Whole Cluster Ferment 2017

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaSynchromesh, and founder / winemaker / powered by riesling inspirer Alan Dickinson, has earned the title as THE riesling producer in Canada, on par with the best anywhere. Storm Haven is their home estate vineyard in Okanagan Falls, a stunning biodiverse site perched on outflow from a mountain pass, and nestled at the base of Peachcliff Mountain. It's easily one of the best sites planted in BC. This brand new Whole Cluster Ferment was an experimental project that Alan made to prove he didn't like skin contact riesling. Turns out he was wrong. This was a specific pick of Gibson Block, from the hotter SW corner area of their home vineyard. After whole cluster ferment and a week on the skins (zero additives), this was gently pressed to finish in tank, where it spent nine months on the lees. Flint, smoke scent this bone dry, savoury wine, one with a bitter English cider bite, lining of candle wax, and texture by way of broken stone. Like licking flint. A fascinating alternative expression of the legendary site, and total departure from Synchomesh's characteristic style. PH 3.4, TA 9.6, 11.8 degrees.Tasted: 15 October 2018Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
