Poggio al Tesoro Il Seggio 2014

Bolgheri, Tuscany, ItalyThe Seggio river visible on the label is the largest watercourse in Castagneto Carducci, in the heart of Bolgheri. Over millennia the water has come down the hills of the region’s surrounding amphitheatre, bringing a wide source of ferrous minerals and alluvial debris including large pebbles to break up the heavier clay soils that run out to the sea. This rosso is a 40/30/20/10 of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and petit verdot. It’s the balance and the easy-drinking style that appeals, not to mention the savoury, garrigue-like, red fruit flavours and silky tannins. Vibrant, fragrant and modern, this is well priced and very Bolgheri. Aged 15 months in French oak, only 30 percent new. Any mushroom-based beef or pasta dish works well here.Tasted: 16 October 2018Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
