Haywire Garnet Valley Ranch Pinot Noir 2017

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is our first look at Garnet Valley pinot fruit in a finished bottle and it’s promising. The nose is bright with smoky, wild raspberry, black cherry fruit flecked with bacon fat and a savoury, stony undercurrent. It’s a new profile, and aspect for Okanagan pinot noir. The majority of this spent four weeks on skins in open top fermenters, plus there was one 600L barrel left on its skins for nine months. It was all aged in a mix of new 200L Mercury barrique, a concrete egg, and a couple of used puncheons. This pinot noir lingers on the palate with a hum of broken stones and cured meats. There a hint of Volnay weight and style here and more complexity that we are used to seeing in Okanagan pinot. Fine potential in this young wine. 200 cases produced, all sold direct at winery.Tasted: 21 August 2018Tasted by: Treve Ring & Anthony GismondiPrices:
