Stag's Hollow Renaissance Merlot Stag's Hollow Vineyard 2015

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaMerlot is tricky, often lacking what its best blending partners, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, bring to the mix. You feel it here too, in Stag's Hollow's top tier Renaissance Merlot, though there is a tip of 5 percent cabernet sauvignon in 2015. This is a baby; hard press tannins streaked with wood frame a dark cherry, savoury, medicinal cassis core. Tannins are grippy anise, the generous fruit housed by a hard shape, and the finish flushed with heat. This is from their gravel/marl Stag's Hollow Estate Vineyard in Okanagan Falls. Half of the grapes were left whole and uncrushed in the three day cold soak. After regular punchdown and light pressing the wine fermented in French oak (2/3 new) until MLF was complete, and then stayed in barrel for 15 months before bottling, unfined and unfiltered. Decant now, or better yet, put this potent wine down for a few years to settle.Tasted: 06 March 2018Tasted by: Prices:
