San Pedro Cabo de Hornos Special Reserve 2014

Region del Valle Central, ChileCabo is made from biodynamically grown grapes in volcanic clay soils in the cooler foothills of the Andes from 20-25-year-old vineyards. Total maceration is just over three weeks before the juice is devatted, filtered and drained to barrel. The 2014 growing season was warmer and riper than 2013, but without any harmful heat spikes giving the wine sufficient structure to take on 60 percent new oak for 18 months. The blend is 67/22/11 cabernet sauvignon, syrah and malbec grown in the Maipo Valley, Alto Cachapoal, Curicó. Maule. It’s big and its intense, shouting boldo, the indigenous garrigue of Chile’s countryside. Spice bay leaves, cassis, and black cherry mixes with cedar, tobacco, vanilla, resin and olives. As big as it presents, there is a sense of elegance and nobility. Cellar through 2022. If you must open it now serve with rare charred T-bone steak.Tasted: 29 March 2018Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
