Poplar Grove Syrah 2014

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe style is friendly and soft with savoury, ripe red fruit, cassis, stone and floral fragrant undertones of cherries and raspberry. The tannins are light and the extra cellaring has allowed the wine to mesh with minimal tannin to disperse. Pour with lamb chops, pork tenderloin or a wild mushroom risotto. The 2014 vintage is described as the perfect vintage, especially down south where the syrah fruit emanates from south-east Osoyoos. The grapes are crushed and combined with three percent viognier skins for aromatics and texture. It all goes through a four-day cold soak and partial wild yeast fermentation. About 30 percent of the syrah is kept in new French oak barrels, while the remainder was aged in one and two-year-old barrels for 15 months. There is seven percent cabernet sauvignon in the mix. After bottling it spends 18 months at the winery before release.Tasted: 14 March 2018Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
