Descendientes de J. Palacios Las Lamas 2014

Bierzo, Castilla-Leon, SpainFrom a .54-hectare, single parcel, Las Lamas is all about three blocks of south-facing 60, 90 and 100-year old vines. It’s fermented in open top wooden vats. Only 3,500 bottles are made after spending some 16 months in large format oak barrels. The ’14 is a 91/7/2 mix of mencía, indigenous white grapes and alicante bouschet. The nose is as beautiful and as wild as the Las Lamas hillside. Floral and meaty sounds a strange combination but it works here when combined with mineral stony red fruit notes and the earthy smoky bits that mark the finish. Just a baby, it will age effortlessly for 15 to 20 years. A real wine packed full of details, details, details.Tasted: 22 March 2018Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
