Anciano 35-Year Old Vines Garnacha 2015

ValdepeƱas, Castilla-La Mancha, SpainThe garnacha vines are old, averaging 35 years of age, and are grown over chalk and clay soils at an altitude of 600-900m in a very dry environment. Low yields = big flavours, and it's evident here. Only fifteen percent of the wine is matured in American and French oak for 120 days before bottling. Intense raspberry, black cherry tumbles onto the palate cleanly with a pronounced spicy undercurrent and a lick of dryness in the back end. Rustic, and as ready to drink as it will be. It will be fine with richer foods like grilled lamb.Tasted: 27 March 2018Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Treve RingPrices:
