Torres Mas La Plana 2012

Penedès, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainMas La Plana is forty-two years old and counting, and this cabernet sauvignon in a Burgundy bottle is all grown up. First planted in 1966, when the idea was revolutionary. A big win in Paris in 1979 with the 1970 Mas La Plana secured its future. In 2012, a very warm growing season flattened out this cabernet, building fruit, weight and power in the bottle with a touch less acid and structure. Time is healing some of that youthful bottle vigour and at this point the jammy blackcurrant fruit is losing a little fat. It’s still more of a California vintage, but that will attract as many fans or more who value rich, spicy, powerful cabernet that is more hedonistic than refined. A solid example of what global warming can do in some years. Drink before 2025. Try it now with an oven-roasted leg of lamb.Tasted: 26 September 2018Tasted by: Prices:
