Nichol Vineyard Pinot Gris 2016

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is one of BC's iconic wines, and one that I enjoy tracking year after year. Iconic because it's 12-27 year old vines, planted on granite, shard, loess and glacial till, sustainably grown and with minimial-intervention throughout. Salmon-orange in hue, the result of 36 hours on the skins in open tops fermenters before pressing (during fermentation) into old French barriques and two-tonne open top fermenters for a few months before being bottled with gentle filtration. Grippy tangerine skin lightly frames mineral salts, apricot fuzz, grapefruit pith and a fine cloud of lees. This has nothing to do with pinot gris, yet it entirely embodies pinot gris from this Naramata vineyard. Best enjoyed over an evening, with room to breathe (when's the last time you said that about a BC PG?)Tasted: 05 October 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
