Altesino Brunello di Montalcino 2012

Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyRe-tasted in Vancouver this is really coming along in bottle. A bigger, stronger wine than in 2011 with an expansive nose and a richness that marks a warm year, but it remains within itself in the Altesino style. It’s the 40th year for this label and the red fruit, mineral undercurrent persistently surfaces the bolder fruit in 2012. The attack is juicy with spicy red fruit flavours and some rich, dense, fine grained tannins in the back end before the acidity fights back in the finish. No rush here, you could easily age this 10 to 15 years before it peaks in the bottle. A terrific bottle to cellar a decade. The Altesino estate spreads across 89 hectares, 44 of which are planted and subdivided into the four Altesino crus of Macina, Castelnuovo dell‘Abate (in the district of Velona), Pianezzine and Montosoli.Tasted: 19 October 2017Tasted by: Prices:
