Rock Wall Wine Co. Obsideana 2012

Lake County, California, United StatesObsideana is a 50/50 mix of zinfandel and petite sirah the later giving it quite the kick in the finish. The Red Hills vineyard of Lake County sits at Black Rock Ranch 2,300 feet above sea level. The black refers to the large deposits of shiny obsidian rock that pop through the volcanic soils first planted by legendary Napa winemaker Nils Venge in 1995. The grapes were layered and crushed together in the fermentation tanks and barreled one third American versus two thirds French oak. The result is rich, heady wine with delicious. Smoky cola peppery blueberry and red fruit flecked flavours with chocolate and cherry vanilla and dense small grained tannins that stiffen up the back end. You can enjoy this now with smoky barbecue ribs or beef tacos. Tasted: 08 October 2014Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
